The Nigerian professor who sent the world into a frenzy with her tweet about the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II, has spoken up following her virality.

Uju Anya has been trending on the internet since she posted the now-viral tweet wishing the monarch an excruciating death.

She tweeted, I heard the chief monarch of a thieving raping genocidal empire is finally dying. May her pain be excruciating.”

When a Twitter user cautioned her, she maintained her stance and said, I’m not wishing her dead. She’s dying already. I’m wishing her an agonizingly painful death like the one she caused for millions of people.”

Her statement stirred an uproar on social media, with some, including Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, criticizing her and demanding that she should be fired by the Carnegie Mellon University where she works.

However, some people declared support for her and said her statement was justified.

Uju has now released a statement addressing the controversy she sparked on social media. She said she’s on the verge of losing her friends, colleagues and associates, especially those from the West, but she won’t let it deter her from speaking her truth.

She said her tweets have started a discourse and encouraged other Africans to also speak up and demand justice.
