Many Killed, Houses & Churches Burnt As Benue Communities Fight Over Land

Many persons were feared killed over the weekend in a communal clash between Ipav and Yandev communities in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

Many houses including worship centers were reportedly burnt during the clash which began on Saturday and lasted till Sunday evening, was due to a land dispute between Mbakpegh of Ipav and Mbatur of Yandev communities at the bank of a stream called Amboor.

According to Daily Post, over 30 houses including worship centres were burnt during the latest crisis which started over a minor argument among some members of the two warring communities.

The crisis between the two communities has been on for some years now over a disputed land, and several efforts made to tame it had not yielded any positive result.

An eyewitness, James Aondover, who posted the development on his Facebook page, said the crisis have consumed economic tress like oranges, mangoes and cashews which were cut down by the warring communities.
